LightGuard Keeps Things In Their Place

The challenge
Wave Runners are very popular among thieves—especially for their parts, which are impossible to trace once the craft's engine has been broken down. But due to space limitations, many retail outlets have to store large items like Wave Runners outside where they are vulnerable to theft.

The solution
Fiber optic loops were threaded through Wave Runners at one dealership to prevent them from being stolen and dismantled. Once ITI's LightGard fiber optic cable was attached to the Wave Runners, a thief could only steal the item by disconnecting or cutting the fiber optic cable—an act that would sound an alarm and alert authorities that a theft is in progress.

Flexible security
Lightweight non-intrusive fiber optic cable is used to secure items indoors or out and can also be threaded through office computers and memory boards. The cable's flexibility enables it to protect PC's, navigational equipment, audio/visual equipment and all kinds of water craft. According to Eric Robichaud, a mechanic at a dealership where the LightGard system is installed, the fiber optic loop is very easy to use. "And as we get new products to display, we can easily expand the system," he said.
